The Great East Japan Earthquake occurred on 11th March, 2011.
About 19,000 people died or were missing due to the earthquake and the tsunami.
After the disaster, there were the nuclear accidents at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant and there are many evacuees.
Sendai Diocese Support Center (SDSC) was set up immediately after the earthquake and started the operation to support the victims.
In April, 2011 Catholic Tokyo Volunteer Center (CTVC) was set up to collaborate with SDSC and send volunteers from Tokyo metropolitan area.
CTVC provides various supports in the southern part of Miyagi and main areas of Fukushima prefectures. We are working with local Catholic churches so that the people do not feel isolated.
